Tree trimming and pruning

Keep your trees healthy, tidy and off the house. I'll shape and cut them back, and prune fruit trees so they keep cropping well.

What I can do

  • Shaping and reducing trees
  • Lifting low branches off paths, driveways and lawns
  • Cutting back branches touching fences, sheds and houses
  • Pruning fruit trees to keep them healthy and productive
  • Taking away all the branches and green waste

Fruit tree pruning

A good prune lets light and air into the middle of the tree, removes dead or crossing branches and keeps the fruit within reach. Timing depends on the type of tree:

  • Apples and pears are usually pruned in winter while the tree is dormant.
  • Plums, peaches, apricots and cherries are generally pruned after harvest in late summer. This helps lower the risk of disease getting into the cuts.
  • Citrus such as lemons and mandarins usually only need a light tidy after fruiting.

Not sure what you've got or when to prune it? Send me a photo and I'll let you know, or read my fruit tree pruning guide.

Trees near power lines

In Auckland, Vector asks that only approved utility arborists trim trees within four metres of a power line. If your tree is near a line, let me know when you get in touch and I can point you in the right direction.

Need a tree gone completely?

I also take trees down. See tree removal.

Common questions

Do you prune fruit trees?

Yes. I prune common home fruit trees like apples, pears, plums and citrus, at the right time of year for each tree.

When should fruit trees be pruned?

Apples and pears are usually pruned in winter. Stone fruit like plums, peaches and apricots is generally pruned after harvest in late summer. Citrus usually just needs a light trim after fruiting.

Can you cut branches back from my roof or fence?

Yes. Cutting back branches that are touching or hanging over roofs, fences, sheds and paths is a common job.

Do you take the branches away?

Yes. All branches and green waste are taken away and included in the price.
